Elba island in a day.!
It was on 18th August 2021, a bright sunny day in Siena, Italy where the actual trip started. We have booked an autobus from Siena to Piombino and then a ferry ship to take to us to Elba island from Piombino. The bus from Siena is scheduled at Piazza Gramsci – the main bus stand in the center at 7:25. It is a 3-hour journey to reach Piombino which costs around 24 euros to reach the port area. Then at 10:30, we have a ship booked from the company Toremar that takes us to the island of Elba. The ship is a pretty huge one that could easily accommodate hundreds of people at one go. It has also a wide variety of food options and to have coffee. Moreover, there are playing facilities for kids, some other video games, and also huge parking spaces to ship vehicles. The journey on the ship was about 50 mins that cost 18 euros per person. We then reach to is Elba island’s center which composes many shops and restaurants. We shopped there in Teznis for some kind of beachwear and took lunch at a restaurant nearby named “Da Michele” which cost about 52 euros for 4 people that composed of 2 kinds of vegetarian pasta, seafood and a special bottle of white wine of Elba.
We then moved on to the beach area that is about 20 mins of walk from the center near Portoferraio that is attached to a bar and restaurant named “Bagni Elba di gestioni”. It is around 13:00 where we entered the actual beach. It was a pebble beach (P.S do not forget footwear 馃檪 ) with lots of people. The beach is also equipped with umbrellas and floaters for free of cost to the public. We had roughly about 3 hours to spend on the beach.
At 16:00 we wrapped up the beach activities and headed back home in a similar way to how we started. Catch the ferry at 16:15 to reach the port at Piombino at 17:15. Catch the return bus to Siena at 17:40 and reach back Piazza Gramsci at 20:30. While returning we have booked a ferry with a different company called Blu Navy as it costed 8 euros lesser than the other one, which had almost a similar experience as the other one.
We could say that the trip is well organized as we are bounded by the fact that there is only one bus that goes to returns from Siena to Piombino per day, but we felt we could have stayed for a day or more in Elba island instead of returning the same day. If done we could have some more time on the beach and also visit a museum nearby. On top of it, we could also plan to do some water sports and activities such as scuba diving, aqua snorkeling, etc.
